27JAN2007 "Doggy playtime - AKA Suki learns Italian"

After a lazy lunch of meat and vegetable samosas, purchased in town, Nathan, Caroline, Eddie, Alice, and most importantly Davey (their 4 month old puppy) came over for a visit. We headed down to the beach, where the tide was almost fully out, and played in the water. Davey is still getting used to Suki and is still learning about the water. She did run in and splash around with us, but Suki seems much more puppy-like that Davey. Suki will chase seaweed, sand balls, sticks, anything you throw in the water. She loves splashing around and of course chasing me up and down the beach...

She is, however, still getting used to random people around and almost made this old Italian guy crap in his banana hammock. He was walking along the beach minding his own business when Suki ran up to him barking. He stopped dead in his tracks, covered his groin tightly, and started babbling in Italian with sweat pouring down his face! Even though he was wearing giant terminator shades, I felt like I could see his wide-open eyes. I did not want to freak him out more, so I walked up slowly, trying to communicate that Suki was harmless regardless of the teeth and growling…he obviously did not appreciate the meeting very much. Strangely though, once I got close and Suki kind of just stopped barking and walked away (without any coercion from me), he calmly answered my apologies with an Italian “no problem” and walked away…I wish I could have understood him to really appreciate what saints he was calling on to protect him from the banana hungry beast!
